01. Tell me about your NaNoWriMo project this year! Give me a blurb!

The blurb…

***

What if our generation grew up in a world were superhumans were commonplace? What if these superhumans weren’t considered heroes?

Humans with superpowers are running rampant around the United States, demolishing whole cities. The citizens demand retaliation. The government answers with the Superhuman Detainment Facility, or SDF. To run around free as a superhuman is now illegal.

All that news seems distant. But when Scarlett Marley has a run-in with a super with fire powers, things are suddenly close to home.

But the thing is, she retained no burns from the accident.

Just a fire-like glow flickering in her eyes.

And two months later when fire suddenly spits from her hands, her life has become one of a criminal. She is transferred to the SDF.

Life seems lost, but a chance comes that could get her back everything she wanted.

Her and four other teen supers are given an assignment to find one of the largest gangs of supers in the rubble remains of Rapid City, South Dakota. The reward? They’re to be the first to receive the experimental treatment to remove superpowers from their bodies.

But this gang and their leader, Rez, aren’t what the media say. Things are flipped on its head, and Scarlett questions everything she was ever told.

Now it comes down to this…

Is she willing to betray newfound friends in exchange for the normal life she desperately wants back?

What do you think? 🙂

02. What’s the genre?

Sci-fi/superhero.

03. Describe your MC in three words.

Introvert, quiet, compassionate.

04. Withouts spoilers, describe your villain in three words.

Well, there’s kind of two villains so…

#1: Intelligent, scheming, prideful

#2: Brooding, sarcastic, prideful

05. What is your goal? (the traditional 50k? 20k? 5k? Or…100k?)

*looks at 100k* O.O. Definitely not…I’m going for the traditional 50k.

06. Is this your first draft? Second? Third?

This will the story’s first draft!

07. Are you starting a new project (or draft) or continuing an existing one?

Completely new project! I can’t wait to write it!.

08. What is your favorite time to write in the day?

In the morning, but my schedule doesn’t usually allow it. Afternoons are a close second.

09. Where are you going to write?

Mostly at my desk.

Maybe in my bed…on the couch. Generally places where my back and neck will be in pain.

10. Computer or paper?

Definitely computer! My hands cannot keep up with my brain and my handwriting eventually morphs into another language when I try to write quickly.

11. NaNoWriMo is a huge commitment. How are you going to make time to write?

I will be calendar blocking all my days to be sure I get all my other things done AND get in writing time.

12. Are you going to participate in local or online NaNoWriMo events? (e.g. kick-off parties in your regions, write-ins, virtual writing sprints…)

I’m not sure yet. I do have local events in my area, but I’m trying to decide if my introvert self can handle it…

13. Do you write from beginning to end or do you skip around?

Beginning to end. Sometimes I want to skip ahead to write scenes that I’m really excited about, but I hold off because it motivates me to keep writing.

14. Planner or pantser? (or plantser?)

I’m part of the rare species of plantser.

15. What will be your go-to NaNoWriMo snack?

Probably anything quick that I can throw together that I don’t have to eat with my hands: don’t want to get the good ol’ keyboard dirty.

16. Choice of caffeine? (or no caffeine?)

Lattes! (especially pumpkin spice 😉 ).

17. Any rewards for milestone achievements? For finishing NaNoWriMo?

Most likely an assortment of sugary, very un-healthy delicious bits of dessert.

So yeah. Chocolate.

But, on a more structured and responsible note, if I reach my weekly word goals at the end of each week, I might give myself permission to buy a small $2 plant for my room. 🙂

Also, if I reach 50k by the end of the month, I might treat myself to a customized bookish scarf from Storiarts with text from my book. 😀

18. Share a tip for other NaNo-ers!

See my post here for a bunch! You can check this one out too!

19. How are you feeling about NaNoWriMo? Excited? Nervous? Terrified?

Sooo excitied!

Laced with a healthy dose of fear…

20. Share an aesthetic for your NaNoWriMo novel!

Here’s a couple character collages for two of my faves…

Love your aesthetics! And the premise. I love internal conflict in stories, and it sounds like Embers will have plenty of it. 🙂

Now, I should probably go get started on my novel… I may or may not be a day behind…

Awesome! Love it! My novel is a lame idea, it’s basically about having to evacuate from California wildfires. -_- I could’ve done better than that.

I’m at least satisfied with my characters, though!

    Good luck. 🙂

Well, I believe that it’s the characters that matter more than the actual plot, so I’m sure your story will be awesome! 😀

It sounds great! I’m glad I’m not the only one with terrible handwriting. My first story was 100 handwritten pages in some journal, and just…baby me had skills that I don’t have anymore, apparently.

Wow, 100 handwritten pages! That’s pretty impressive! 😀 Yeah, I missed the “neat cute handwriting” trait most girls have I guess. XD

THIS SOUNDS AMAZING!! I’m not usually one for superheroes (outside of The Incredibles…) BUT this sounds awesome!
Hmm…my MC in three words… Broken, stubborn, reckless. 😂 He’s sweet under all that though.
