My 2020 Reading Summary

person in black sweater holding book

Despite the fact that I didn’t reach my Goodreads goal, 2020 was a pretty good reading year.

I read some new releases, some classics, some anthologies, and A LOT of speculative fiction. Here’s a look at my 2020 reading summary…

I had set my goal to 50, thinking I could crush the goal as easily as I did my 52 goal in 2019. I was wrong. I was doing a ton of editing on my superhero novel and didn’t have as much time for reading (except for during quarantine. A lot of reading happened then). But I’m not too disappointed about not reaching my goal. I loved nearly all the books I read.

I can thank Skyracer for that book on the left, because I had to read it for some research. Wayfarer was SO AWESOME. Historical superhero? YES, PLEASE. It’s a nice, healthy-length book and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I finally, FINALLY started reading the Narnia books after claiming to be a fan just based off movies. I read all of them but The Silver Chair and the Last Battle. Those, hopefully, I will tackle in 2021. And that epic anthology there I received in exchange for an honest review. And I gotta say, I love the variety of stories in there; lots of humor, lots of gripping scenes.

I’d say that’s pretty satisfactory. 🙂

I’m not gonna list all 36 books I read, but here are the top ones, my five stars, my book babies, that have a special place on my shelf (and my heart).

  • Wayfarer by K. M. Weiland
  • A Time to Rise by Nadine Brandes (reread)
  • Emberhawk by Jamie Foley
  • Cry of the Raven by Morgan L. Busse
  • Nova by Chuck Black
  • The Story Hunter by Lindsay A. Franklin
  • Fight Write by Carla Hoch
  • The Memory Thief by Lauren Mansy
  • Story Genius by Lisa Cron
  • Dust by Kara Swanson
  • Mortal Sight by Sandra Fernandez Rhoads
  • The Story of With by Allen Arnold (reread)
  • Hidden Current by Sharon Hinck
  • Forsaken Island by Sharon Hinck
  • Called to Create by Jordan Raynor
  • Brand of Light by Ronie Kendig
  • The Maze Runner by James Dashner
  • Anxious for Nothing by Max Lucado (reread)
  • Self-Publisher’s Legal Handbook by Helen Sedwick

And there ya be! Considering the size of my TBR and the books in it, I’d say that 2021 promises to be a good reading year. 🙂

What was your favorite book of 2020? What book are you most looking forward to reading in 2021?

I’m looking forward to reading the Out of Time Trilogy by Nadine Brandes, Instant Karma by Marissa Meyer, The Shadow Throne and The Captive Kingdom by Jennifer A. Nielsen in 2021. Those are, from the top of my head, the top most anticipated to read for me. 🙂

WOW, you read a LOT of books!!! Way to go, Jenna! 🖐 I am lucky to finish 12 books in a year. My #1 constraint is time. While I joke about being a slow reader, I’m probably about average. I just struggle to find more than 2 spare hours a week to read.
