Q: How did you start writing?

A: I’ve had a love of stories for as long as I can remember. Then I begun to craft my own stories when I was seven or eight years old. It begun as messy doodles coupled with happy little stories on lined paper. As I grew, my love to writing grew with me. As other hobbies came and went, this one always stuck and has grown to be a big part of who I am.

Q: Why do you write?

A: The short answer is: because I love it. But the longer answer goes much deeper. On top of being a writer, I’ve also always loved to read. But it was a struggle to find fiction that was clean and appropriate while also being well-written, having deep themes and memorable characters. I became a strong believer in writing what you want to see on the shelf, and that became my mission as a writer. I want to fill the voids on the shelf. I want people to be impacted by my stories. I want them to be pointed to God in some way, because He’s the one who gave me this passion for storytelling.

If you want to change the world, pick up your pen and write. -Martin Luther

Q: Where did the inspiration for Ignite come from?

A: It stemmed partially from an image that stuck in my mind from a movie trailer and another superhero book I tried to write years ago, but didn’t go anywhere. I was intrigued by the idea of superhumans being common in our world, but being praised as superheroes like our culture does. I wanted to explore the theme of accepting all of who you are despite what society says, even if that’s something like superpowers.
