    I had this moment… “I want to be an indie author!” I said to myself. Then I thought, “…well, now what?”

    Making a decision about your publishing path is a great accomplishment! That means you did tons of research, wrestled back and forth with the pros and cons, thought about what was best for you and your books, and made the decision. 

    But some may wonder…now what? Where do you go from here? You don’t just come across publishing advice for indies as commonly as traditional. Maybe you heard the whole indie thing is a ton of work. Yes, it is (*cough*says the one who hasn’t published yet*cough*). It can be hard to know where to start.

    Pros and Cons of the Writing Community +nano update no. 2

    This post idea has been on my mind for a while. There are so many good things about the writing community. But, like anything, it has its downsides…

    I don’t want to be super negative in this post. That’s not my goal. I just hope that I can bring some light to a few small issues so that maybe people will change and we can make this great community even better!

    How to Research a Place You’ve Never Been To +nano update no. 1 (& a new blog series coming soon…)

    Sometimes it can be hard to write about a city you’ve never been in.

    I recently realized that whenever I have to set one of my stories in a big city, I choose Chicago, IL. Because I’ve been there several times, I was unknowingly using that as a crutch to avoid having to do the work to get to know another city.

    That shouldn’t be.

    I set one of the main location settings in my novel Embers in Chicago. Well, Intelligent Jenna did not realize until at the end of her outlining that Chicago and Niobrara County, Wyoming (another main location setting) are over 16 hours apart.

    *face palm*

    No, wait…

    *face smack*

    It’s embarrassing. Go ahead, laugh at me. I can take it.
