Do songs make me cry?|Me & Music Tag

black vinyl record on white table

I’ve had a passion for music since I started taking piano lessons in third grade.

So you know I was excited when Esmeralda @Lattes and Literature (great blog name, by the way) tagged me for the Me & Music Tag. I don’t think I’ve ever talked about my music tastes as in-depth as this post, so let’s get into it…

The rules:

  • Link back to original (Sophie @ Me and Ink) so she can see your answers and listen to the tunes.
  • For every prompt you choose to do, name 1-5 songs (you can use Sophie’s graphics).
  • Have fun and play your music LOUD!

Quick note: songs don’t usually make me cry. And even if they do, it’s usually just a tearing up that lasts a few second. But here are some songs that may or may not have brought a tear or two to my eye…

//Rebel Heart by Lauren Daigle

//Come to Jesus by Chris Rice

//Sometimes instrumental music by Helen Jane Long or Ludovico Einaudi

I can look back on my music tastes and distinctly see the individual obsessions that I hopped between over the years. There were…many.

My current music obsessions…

//The Greatest Showman soundtrack

//Classical music (Bach, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Vivaldi, Chopin, Brahms, Lizst, etc.)

//Proud by Influence Music

Had to choose some of the songs I already answered with, because they’re so good…

//Proud by Influence Music.

Oh to see You smiling over me
If only just to know that You are pleased
Even though this heavy load has led me to my knees.

I wanna hear You say, “you’re good and faithful”
Words written on Your face, “you’re strong and able”
I wanna hear You say, “come to my table”
I wanna hear You say

//Come to Jesus by Chris Rice

Weak and wounded sinner
Lost and left to die
O, raise your head, for love is passing by
Come to Jesus
Come to Jesus
Come to Jesus and live!

Now your burden’s lifted
And carried far away
And precious blood has washed away the stain, so
Sing to Jesus
Sing to Jesus
Sing to Jesus and live!

//The Breakup Song by Francesca Battistelli

Fear, you don’t own me
There ain’t no room in this story
And I ain’t got time for you
Telling me what I’m not
Like you know me well guess what?
I know who I am
I know I’m strong
And I am free
Got my own identity
So fear, you will never be welcome here

A lot of the lyrics for the songs on this playlist mean a lot to me:

I…don’t listen to popular songs. #sorrynotsorry But I guess I might consider You Say by Lauren Daigle a popular song, so I’ll answer with that. πŸ™‚

//The Sound of Music.

Not a specific song, more like the whole thing. My family watches it every year on Valentine’s Day and it’s just always been my favorite musical.

//Hakuna Matata from Lion King

BIG childhood memory points here. My younger sister, when she was little, went through a phase of watching this every. single. day. So yeah, we had the script and all the songs memorized. πŸ˜‰ And this song is just a classic!

I have a lot of memories tied to this whole playlist:

I usually never sing when people are around, but when these songs come on I can’t help but annoy my siblings a little and sing along (sometimes loudly and intentionally off-key). πŸ˜›

//Reflection from Mula

//You’ve Got a Friend in Me from Toy Story

//When She Loved Me from Toy Story

I can’t think of specific songs for this, but lately I’ve been liking chill lo-fi hip hop (like Chilledcow), which I never thought I’d like several months ago.

//Look Up, Child by Lauren Daigle

//Porcelain by Helen Jane Long

//Star Light, Star Bright by Greg Maroney

//Divenire by Ludovico Einaudi

And I am tagging everyone reading this! πŸ˜€ Enjoy!

Oh, and HAPPY THANKSGIVING! πŸ˜€ A big thing I’m thankful for this year is you all! I’m so proud of the positive community here and I can’t thank you enough for the support and encouragement you’ve all given me. Blogging definitely wouldn’t be as fun without you. <3 Enjoy today!

By the way, I have a new Christmas-themed Redbubble collection coming to my shop tomorrow, so keep a look out for that. πŸ˜‰

    Song to make you cry and cry:
    I don’t cry with songs much, but I would say “Did You Ever Need a Miracle” by Greg Coleman, or “The Christmas Shoes” by Newsong

    Your latest musical obsessions:
    “Won My Heart” by Gateway Worship and “Wonder” by Bethel and Amanda Cook. I also LOVE “Seated On High” by The Belonging Co.

    Favorite lyrics from songs:
    I am so busy with work I can’t post the lyrics, but two are “It is So” by Elevation Worship and “My God and King” by Terry MacAlmon

    Songs in the charts you love:
    I am the same as Jenna, i don’t listen to songs on the charts. But one that did hit the chart when it first came out (it actually hit #1 on iTunes) is “The Blessing” by Kari Jobe and Elevation Worship

    Songs you have specific memories attached to: “In the Belly of the Whale” by the Newsboys and “The Promise” or “Except for Grace” by the Martins

    Those songs you have to sing to:
    OOH! “Overcomer” or “Just Not Finished” by Mandisa and “Listen to the Sound” by Building 429, AND “Strong Enough” by Matthew West when they come on the radio. Oh, and “Let Love Win” by Carrollton.

    Songs you didn’t expect to love, but you do:
    I don’t have any lol. XD

    Name the albums you can’t live without:
    I’ll pick 3 (There’s so much more). “Run to the Father” album by Cody Carnes, “The Emerging Sound Vol.5” by People and Songs, and “Fighting for Us” single by Anthony Evans

    I love Lauren Daigle’s songs! Casting Crowns is also one of my favourites! I LOVE the movie soundtrack for The Greatest Showman! Rewrite the Stars, From Now On/Home Again, and A Million Dreams are my current top three favourites, but it tends to change depending on my mood. ;D

    When She Loved Me from Toy Story 2 always makes me tear up. And Reflection was the song I would always sing to every time I heard it. Disney songs are just so much fun to sing along to. πŸ˜€

    My family watches The Sound of Music almost every year, too! Though, we watch it on New Year’s Eve.

    I loved reading about the songs and soundtracks you like!

      Yay! Sounds like you’ve got great music tastes. πŸ˜‰ I haven’t heard much from Casting Crowns; I’ll have to listen to them more. That’s awesome that your family watches The Sound of Music every year too. πŸ˜€ Thanks for reading!

    Band Perry’s self-titled album

    Thank you so much for tagging me πŸ™ƒ. Otherwise, I’d have to steal this.
