September is not only the month of my actual birthday (19 this year!), but it’s the month that I got serious about my writing and kindled a deep passion that had been just waiting for me to stoke.
Writing is such a joyous and grueling thing at the same time. It has its ups and downs, but truth be told, we just can’t stop writing. We can’t not write. It’s part of us. And it’s something to be celebrated.
I don’t normally hear of writers celebrating the fact that they are writers. Anything that we love in this world and that’s something beautiful should be celebrated and shouted from the rooftops.
Here are some reasons that you should celebrate every year when you got into writing. You may not be able to remember a specific day, or maybe even a month. Just choose a day and mark it as your writing birthday! 😀
Reason 01. Writing is, like, really hard
(very eloquent, Jenna).
But yeah. It’s super duper hard. But hey, we’re still here, and we’re still writing, because we are fighters. We love this too much to quit, am I right?
Reason 02. Writing is a passion
Writing is something that we are very passionate about, to the very core of our beings. Stories are just part of us, all around us. Not everyone is given this gift. We should cherish it.
Reason 03. God’s given us this passion for a reason
Nothing happens for nothing. God’s given us this love of storytelling for a purpose, and that alone is enough to smile about. He wants to use your writing for something great. Who knows, maybe to change the world, or even just change one heart. Don’t hide your light under a bushel.
Those are pretty good reason, right? Now that you’re convinced that you should celebrate your writing birthday…what now? How does one go about commemorating this special occasion? Here are some suggestions…
01. Write a poem
I mean, we’re writers. What better way to celebrate writing than to…write…about writing. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just pour out your heart and thoughts about this gift of storytelling and your part in it. I definitely recommend making this a freestyle poem. Not only is this form my favorite, but it allows a bit more freedom for thoughts and feelings to flow.
02. Celebrate with friends and/or family!
Your friends and family have supported you through this writing journey of yours, so why not join them in on the fun? Even if you just tell them that you’re celebrating your writing birthday and they squeal with you, that’s enough. Spread the happiness.
03. Celebrate with your writer friends!
Who else would be better to party with than your fellow storytellers? Let them know you’re celebrating your writing birthday, ask them when theirs is, and take the opportunity to encourage them in their writing.
04. Do something that inspires you
Do something, anything, that brings a smile to your face and fills you with inspiration. It might just be an evening walk, night drive, reading, listening to music, or going on an outing with your family.
05. Eat donuts
Because it’s we need yet another excuse to consume sugar…
But seriously…if you can, get your hands on your favorite treat!
I hope you enjoyed this post; I had fun writing it! If you have more ideas on celebrating a writing birthday, tell me in the comments!
