*takes deep breath*Β Ah, another Coffee Talks…
Hello, folks! Welcome to the second post in the Coffee Talks series, where I just pour my heart out in its jumbled mess and randomness. You might find some deep thoughts, and you might some thoughts that are just….weird. But anyway, here I am, just enjoying talking with you all.
Alrighty, let’s get set…
Now imagine…
We just hopped in the car for a spontaneous evening drive. I take you to my favorite spot, meandering along the lonely road surrounded by tall pines. The windows are down, and we’re breathing in the fresh scent and listening to the light mist whisper through the treetops. We pull off on the side of the road and just sit, taking our shoes off to curl up on our seats. Of course, our warm thermoses of coffee are in hand, filling the car with the roasted scent. I might’ve have brought a box of cookies from home, but who know….
Comfy? π
Lately I’ve been really getting into learning about business, especially now that I have a bit more time since I’ve graduated high school. I’m going to be taking some business and/or marketing courses, plus read books, and I’m especially interested in specifically creative entrepreneur education. I’ve always wanted to be an entrepreneur, either a small business by myself or with my family.
Which brings me to another topic. Book publishing. For the longest time, I wanted to be traditionally published. And then I went back and forth between traditional and indie. And then I decided to stick with traditional. And now I want indie.
Like, WHAT IN THE WORLD MAKE UP YOUR MIND, JENNA!
But seriously, this has been something that I’ve been trying to decide between for years. I know there’s no rush in deciding (or is there?), but I like to know where I’m going. I’ve spent a lot of time looking up the pros and cons of both paths, and what it seems to boil down to is…
…it’s just up to me and what my book needs. Either way is great, as long as you choose the path that’s best for you and your books.
Some definitely will argue with this, saying that traditional publishing is the way to go. I do realize that indie publishing has kind of had a bad reputation for many years, but I feel like it’s really picking up it’s game. I’m noticing better writing, cover design, and formatting. People are putting more work into their indie books.
I do realize that publishing houses make things easier and cheaper by handling a lot of marketing and getting your book out there, but I’ve realized something about myself.Β I want to be an entrepreneur. That’s my mindset.Β It’s been my dream to start a business, and self-publishing kind of is that. I mean, you have to handle all your marketing and advertising, hiring people for cover design, editing, interior formatting, etc. And I think it’s thrilling.
So yeah, maybe indie publishing is much more difficult, but I don’t mind. π Indies are on the rise and I want to be part of it!
I’ve been getting more and more into photography lately. The above picture is one I took in July, and edited in the VSCO app on my phone. I love being able to capture moments and look back on them. I have a photo journal album on my phone too. I may pursue photography as a business as well, selling digital photos. Who knows…
You know, despite being a major introvert, I love it when creative like-minded people get together. I love the loyal community and strong bonds that form. I wish there were more ways to connect with the creative souls around me, online and in person. But I do love the community we have here! I appreciate each and every one of you! <3
And that concludes my rambling thoughts for Coffee Talks|2. Let me know in the comments if that “set the scene” bit at the beginning is nice, or weird and annoying. π

I love these!! Your setting the scene wasn’t weird at all!! I love going for drives. π Yes!! Go indie!! I’m so happy for you. π I have like zero eye for pictures, but I like adding song lyrics onto pictures my mom and brother take. The internet is my basically only way to connect with other authors, mostly bc I don’t know hardly any in real life…plus, I think it’s easier for me to get to know them through emails and things rather than face to face!! Career plans…long story but medical all the way!
Good, I’m glad you liked it! π YES, INDIE ALL THE WAY! π I actually really like it when people add pretty song lyrics to pretty pictures. π The internet really is a blessing for us writers; we can communicate with a much larger circle of people, while in the comfort of our homes! π
Wow, medical field, huh? I know you’ll do great and help a lot of people.
I love hearing about what’s going on in your life and the decisions you’re making! Thanks for sharing, Jenna π
<3 Thank you for reading, Isabel! :)
I love your setting! <3 <3 It's perfect. π I'm honestly not even sure what I want, indie or traditional-wise. I feel like it would be nice to get published traditionally, but as you say, I'm thinking about indie a little more now. Plus, it's much more realistic. XD Great talk, I'm looking forward to more of these! π
<3 Glad you like it!
You can always go hybrid too; both indie and traditional. I learned recently that J. K. Rowling is a hybrid author. O.O
Thank you for reading, Kenechi!
Ah, the struggle to decide is REAL! But itβs nice having a goal to work toward. Iβve been submitting and getting small bites, but Iβm still not sure traditional will work out for me.
