My 7 Bookish Confessions

Guys. I have a confession to make.

Several, actually.

I’m a dedicated booknerd like a lot of us around here, and I agree with the majority of the bookish opinions such as the book is always better than the movie, etc.

But…there are some things that I have to confess. Bookish confessions that you may or may not relate to. Some are a little…embarrassing, maybe.

Here we go anyway…

BLOG PINTEREST GRAPHICS (54).png

01. I won’t read the book after seeing its movie

I’ll always be up for watching the movie after reading the book. But for some reason I have no motivation to read the book if I’ve seen its movie first.

02. I haven’t read Harry Potter and I don’t intend to

Harry Potter. Quite possibly the biggest bookish fandom in current existence.

I haven’t read it.

I don’t intend to. It doesn’t appeal to me. #sorrynotsorry

03. I’ve never read the Narnia books, but I claim to be a fan

This one I am most ashamed of. I got hooked on Narnia because of the movies years ago, but I’ve never read the books. And I claim to be a Narnia fan. *shakes head sadly* This is kind of linked to Confessions #1. But there is still hope! I received the collection of Narnia books for Christmas, so now I at least own them.

And I will read them. *nods*

04. I don’t like a long series

It’s weird. Even if the series is good, I don’t like it to be dragged out too long. And I don’t usually like standalones because, if it’s good, I’d wish it was a series. Trilogies are my sweet spot.

05. I’m extremely careful about keeping my books in good quality

I mean EXTREMELY careful. Like, when I let my siblings borrow a book of mine I basically give them a tutorial on how to hold a book properly, what kind of bags not to put it in, don’t eat and read, give me the hardcover’s jacket until you’re finished, if I see a mark that wasn’t there before then YOU WILL PAY.

Ahem.

Okay, maybe not that threatening.

06. Hardbacks are superior

I will buy fewer books to be able to save up for the hardback versions. They just feel more…bookish.ย They stay nicer and seem more sturdy, and it’s easier to take pictures of them.

07. I judge a book by the cover

*is ashamed* Yes, despite the well-known saying, I do, in fact, tend to judge books by their covers. But hey, I know I’m not the only one (don’t be shy now, admit it). And why else would cover design for a book be so important for its success?

Okay, I think that’s enough exposing me for one day. I’ve told you about my bookish confessions, and now it’s your turn. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I donโ€™t like a long series either and I also judge a book by its cover as well! ๐Ÿ˜€

    Yay to non-harry-potter-readers. I’m not alone! ๐Ÿ˜›
I totally judge books by their covers. In looking to be traditionally published, my biggest hesitation is that they could choose a terrible cover and I wouldn’t get a say in it. xD

Yes, that thought scares me too! I want to love my cover! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Love this and actually agree on a number of these. I haven’t read the Harry Potter series yet either and probably won’t. I have yet to finish all the Narnia books, although I did start them. He is a great author and writer, but for some reason I struggle to get myself to sit down and actually read his books. I used to feel very strongly about not reading a book if I had already seen the movie, but I am slowly changing that. I really struggle with long series, as well, and don’t usually finish them even if I do read the first couple. I should probably never borrow a book from you. hehe! Although I do take care of things if they are being borrowed, I really struggle with keeping a book in perfect condition. ๐Ÿ˜‰ And yes, I judge books and choose books according to their cover.

I love me a good cover! I like standalones best. I haaate long series (unless it’s a really good one), and trilogies can sometimes be hard for me to finish. Standalones are where it’s at for me! (I’m open to duologies, though)

Standalones are pretty great. ๐Ÿ™‚ Do you have a favorite?

I would be shocked at some of these things, but I’ll try not to get angry, since you did put yourself out there. ๐Ÿ˜‰
For the record, I judge books by their cover as well. But also for the record, cover designs *are* designed to keep with the mood of the story and it’s target audience soooo ๐Ÿ˜†
    Great post!

Yes, very true. I guess technically everyone judges a book by the cover to some degree.

Haha, this is so fantastic! ๐Ÿ˜„

I’ve never read Harry Potter either. *shrugs* Time will tell if I ever do. ๐Ÿ˜‚

You really should read the Narnia books. THEY ARE SO GOOD!! I have almost the opposite history with that series…I read all the books and then I saw the first movie and was like “these are dumb. I’m sticking with the books.” ๐Ÿ˜›

I can stand series that are around three to five books, any longer and I start to get bored. (unless it’s an absolutely phenomenal series ๐Ÿ˜€)

    Yup. Hardbacks all the way.

And don’t worry, I judge books by their cover too. But I’ve also read some pretty awesome books with some poor covers, it’s kinda hit or miss. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Hmm…one of my bookish confessions is that I eat and drink while reading and more often than I’m going to admit, I get the stuff I’m eating/drinking on the pages. It’s a really bad habit, I know. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ *crawls under bed*

YESSS! I am hoping to read the Narnia books REALLY SOON. ๐Ÿ™‚

Good, cuz they are absolutely amazing. ๐Ÿ˜„

Oh, uh…sorry about that. ๐Ÿ™ƒ It is kind of gross. Although it’s not as bad as this one girl I heard of who found a piece of bacon in her library book. ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿคฎ I promise I don’t use edible objects as bookmarks. ๐Ÿ˜‚

OH MY WORD! A piece of greasy bacon in a book is THE WORST thing ever. Nah, what you do isn’t so bad. ๐Ÿ˜‰

BUT YES GIRL. I hate letting people borrow my books because I’m paranoid then they’re going to ruin them! Even the tiniest little scratches freak my out.

YES! *highfives* I will never read Harry Potter either!!

Also I judge books by their covers…. *nods*

AND I’m so protective of my books when I let people borrow them. XD I take the hardcover jackets off, I explain what not to do to my book, and I sternly give them a talkin’ to if they don’t read them fast enough. I hate my books being off my shelf for too long….lol

Yes, I’m the same way! I like ALL my books to be on my shelf. I don’t like that gaping hole a borrowed book leaves.

๐Ÿ™‚ I agree with your Narnia confession except change “Narnia” to LOTR. I’ve never read it but I really really want/plan to. Plus my dad has the collection so it WILL HAPPEN ONE DAY. ๐Ÿ˜€

Anywho… #TEAMHARDBACK of course (except they can be really heavy when you move houses…)

Haha. Long series are the best in my case. ๐Ÿ™‚ They can be hard to nail down all the way though.

One bookish confession I have is even though I may not like one book from the author I still try to give them another chance by either trying to read the book again later or read another one of their works. ๐Ÿ™‚ This worked for me with Anne Elisabeth Stengl’s Tales of Goldstone Woods (I didn’t like Heartless very much but the rest of the series were a lot better since it’s obvious she matured as an author), and Jill Williamson (I didn’t care for her Blood of Kings trilogy but decided to read King’s Folly, a prequel trilogy book, and it was amazingly complex and I came to admire her ability to balance so many POVs).

Yeah, I’ve actually never read the LOTR books either…
lol, yeah I imagine they are a bit of a pain to move all at once.
I like to do that too. I don’t like to let one book decide I won’t read anything else from that author (unless, of course, the book had a lot of bad content).
Aw, thank you so much! I really appreciate it! <3

You’ve never read Narnia?! Oh my blessed. You must. Or, if you don’t read it right off, you could listen to it on Audible! They have the entire collection right now, and it is an amazing deal to get it with one credit! Kenneth Branagh (starred in and directed the movies Murder on the Orient Express, Hamlet, Much Ado About Nothing) reads The Magicians Nephew (my favorite of the books, and the first one) amazingly! I wish he could have read the whole series. ๐Ÿ™‚
