10 Tips to Stay Productive Working At Home

We’re all having to adjust to working only from home. For a lot of us, this has thrown off our productivity.

With our schedules suddenly cleared for the most part, it’s easy to let go of routine and structure. And that’s essential for a productive day.

Maybe you’re struggling with this too. Sleeping in, not getting much done, and just generally not feeling that motivated. But never fear, I am here today with some tips for you on working at home.

I don’t have a job outside of the house, but I’ve learned a few things through experience about staying productive working at home. Sometimes it can be difficult to separate work from other life things, which makes it hard to concentrate and get stuff done.

01. Make schedules

Still give your day some sort of structure. Calendar blocking can be just the thing you need to stay productive and on track with your to-do list.

02. Get up at the same time as you usually do

It’s so easy to sleep in for hours and hours when you don’t have your usual work or school schedule. Even though it’s okay to sleep in some time when your body needs it, try your best to stick to getting up at the same time (or close to it) as you usually did. And change out of your pajamas if that helps too. 😉

03. Try something new

Take advantage of this extra time in your schedule to try a new skill or practice an old one. And if you’re having trouble thinking of something new to do, check out this post of 124 activity ideas.

04. Workout/stay active

Maybe you didn’t have time to workout before, but now’s your chance! Pinterest is a great place to find all kinds of workouts and exercises and challenges. Recently, I’ve been loving trying out workout plans by Darebee.

Now is a great time to practice self-care.

05. Keep things clean

Hey, now you have time to spring clean! 😛 Take some extra time to keep your room, house, workspace neat and tidy for optimum productivity.

06. Reward yourself

Reward your hard work! It may seem weird at first, but there’s nothing wrong in taking a fifteen minute reading break after getting a lot of work done. Make daily goals and set rewards to look forward to when you complete them. Great for motivation!

07. Take breaks

Breaks are still important. Using the pomodoro technique is a great way to do this. Work for 20-25 minutes, take a break for 5 (you can experiment with the time to what suits you).

08. Drink lots of water

Hydration is very important; for health and brain power. It’s recommended that you drink a 1/2 ounce of water for every pound you weigh. And it’s great to drink 20 of those ounces before you eat anything in the morning. Drinking water can seem like a boring activity, but make it interesting by adding things to your glass. Lemon juice, fruit, essential oils, etc.

09. Keep an eye on phone usage

Ooh, boy. It’s so easy to go to our phones with all this extra time. Let’s all be mindful of the time we spend on our phones and focus more on off-screen activities.

10. Get the hard stuff out of the way first

Plan to get it done first, and you’re more likely yo actually get it done. If you put it off, it’s easy to just keep doing that: shoving farther and farther down your to-do list.

I’m definitely rewarding myself. I’ve been ordering books. A lot of books. XD

Also, I’m a senior, so I’m giving myself some graduation gifts, which are also books. lol (I couldn’t resist buying the next two books in the Mark of the Raven trilogy!!) ;P

    Great advice!!
