5 Ways to Support Your Favorite Author (besides buying their book)

Supporting authors can (and should) go beyond just buying their books.

Even though buying their stories is an awesome way to support them, there are several other ways you can show your appreciation for them. And a lot of them are things you’re probably already doing…

01. Leave reviews everywhere

Authors love honest reviews. At the end of a lot of books there’s a note saying something like “If you liked this book, then please consider leaving an honest review on Amazon, Goodreads, Barnes & Noble, etc.” If you loved a book, then leave an honest review on as many places as you can: Amazon, Goodreads, Barnes & Noble, your blog, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

02. Word of mouth

Word of mouth marketing can actually be very effective. Don’t hesitate to spread the message about your favorite book or author. Tell friends, family, and fellow booknerds about your favorite authors.

03. Ask your library to order the book

Request your favorite author’s books to be ordered for your local library. Then more people can find and enjoy your favorite reads!

04. Street teams

Not every author has them, but some do. If your favorite author has a street team, then join the club! Not only will your favorite author now have a new recruit to help spread the word about their books, but you’ll get exclusive benefits.

05. Send fan letters/messages

If you loved an author’s story, then tell them so! I’m sure a heartfelt letter or even just a short message via social media would brighten their day. Writing and publishing a book is hard, and authors like to know their stories are touching someone.

I hope these few simple ideas will help us all support and uplift our favorite authors and more tightly connect readers and authors. ๐Ÿ™‚

Are these productivity questions? What do you when you don’t feel like writing? How do you break through writer’s block? How do you keep writing consistently? How do you get inspiration when you have none?
