Reacting to My Old Writing|pt. 3

a long white flat board against the wall

I seem to like embarrassing myself…

Hey hi hello welcome to part 3 of reacting to my old stories. If you’re new and haven’t seen the previous segments of this post, then check those out here and here. They’re worth the read if you want a few laughs (and maybe a facepalm or two).

Yes, it’s embarrassing. Yes, it’s so very cringe-worthy. But it’s also hilarious. That’s why I’m putting myself through the torture of reading through my old stories. Quality content here, guys. You’re welcome.

Okay, so we’re gonna do it a teensy bit different this time. Instead of reacting to two new first chapters of separate stories, we’re going to continue one we started in part 2 of the series, Robyn and the Mystery Horse (because it was comedy gold). So if you haven’t already, go catch up on this story in part 2 and hop back over here to continue the cringe-fest… As usual, the story will be italicized and my comments will be in [bold brackets]. Here we go *deep breath*…

Chapter 2

The Work of the Mystery Horse

*****

Robyn and her family drove back home after a few fun-filled days with her aunt and uncle. [Not really seeing the point in the plot of them visiting the aunt and uncle but okay] Again, Robyn had the camera ready, just in case she saw the Mystery Horse. [For heaven’s sake]

Robyn fell asleep for part of the way. [Your lack of dedication to the cause disgusts me] When they got home, Josh nudged her awake. “Look! Look!” He said pointing out the car window. Robyn looked but didn’t see anything, but that was the problem. All the horses in the corral were gone! Robyn instantly thought it was the Mystery Horse’s work. [How’d you make that jump?]

They all walked out to the corral fence. Her dad sighed. Robyn walked over to him and tugged on his sleeve. “Dad, do you think it was the Mystery Horse?” She asked. [Keep your delusions to yourself. You’ve already got two friends to join you in the mental institute] “Robyn, I don’t know.” [Just me, or does he sound a little irritated with her hm?] Robyn frowned. She could tell he didn’t think the Mystery Horse was real. [Or he’s just really concerned for your mental health.]

Robyn slowly walked toward the car to get her stuff out of the trunk. She pulled her suit case up the front steps and into her room.

After unpacking, she sat at her desk and sighed. Why didn’t her dad believe [Hey we used the proper spelling this time! *much celebration*] in the Mystery Horse anymore? He was the one who told her the story. But Robyn beleived [*headdesk*] he was out there somewhere.

*****

The next day, Robyn got a call from Joy. “Robyn, you won’t believe what happened last night.” Robyn was curious. [I’m sorry I just… have you heard of I don’t know maybe SHOWING emotions and thoughts???] “All the horses from one of my corrals are gone!” Robyn gasped. “The same thing happened to me.” Robyn said. “Do you think it was the Mystery Horse?” Joy asked. [Are mental illness contagious?] Robyn thought. “Maybe.” She said slowly. “I have to go.” Robyn said. “I’m going to look for clues in the woods.” Then they hung up the phones. [This game is called How Many Times Can I Use the Protagonist’s Name in a Paragraph. 7 times, apparently]

When Robyn was about to walk out the door, her mom called her. “Where are you going? Today is Saturday; time to clean up the house.” Robyn sighed as she closed the door. She forgot today was Saturday. She went upstairs to clean her room, then help her mom with mopping the floors.

After cleaning the house, Robyn got a call from Kathrine. “Guess what happened last night?” [*gasps* WhAt? I am in much suspense!!] Robyn thought it might have been the work of the Mystery Horse. [WhAt? You think???] “My friends and I where camping out for a night, and when I got home, the horses from our corral were gone.” Robyn nodded. “Hmmm. Same thing happened to me. Tomorrow I’m going to find out if it really is the Mystery Horse.” They hung up the phones, and Robyn prepared for the trip. [Sorry…what trip? Did I…miss something here??]

Chapter 3

The Adventure

*****

While Robyn’s mom and Josh were out, and her dad working in the stables, she set out on her journey to find the Mystery Horse. [So she’s…sneaking out]

First, she followed the tracks into the woods. Then they ended when leaves appeared on the ground. [Leaves just…appeared *is magik*]

After wondering what to do for about ten minutes, [She’s got resolve, that one. Hiked into the woods without a smidgen of a plan] she heard rustling in the bushes. Robyn froze. Was it the Mystery Horse? [Doubt a horse could hide in a bush, but considering your mental state…] Then she heard, “Ouch!” Robyn was shocked, it sounded like Joy. Then Joy stumbled out from the bush, with Kathrine following her. “What are you guys doing out here?” Asked Robyn. [You infected them with your obsession, remember?] “We had to see the Mystery Horse, if you found him.” Joy said, brushing off her pants. “We heard you walking and thought it was an animal, so we hid in the bush.” Joy plucked something off her shirt. “And Kathrine didn’t tell her there were thorns on the bush.” [Yikes. Some friend she is] Robyn laughed, then aloud [“aloud” guys I wrote “aloud”] them to follow her.

After looking for hours, Kathrine started to complain. “How long are we going to look?” She asked. Then Robyn stopped. “Did you hear that? She asked in a whisper. “Hear what?” Joy said, quit loudly. [A simple “e” there would’ve sufficed] “Shhh” Said Robyn. “Follow me.” Kathrine and Joy followed Robyn behind a tree. Robyn crouched down and tried to look in so many directions at one time. [You ain’t a chameleon] “What are you looking for?” Asked Kathrine. [oh I don’t know maybe tHE MYSTERY HORSE] Robyn sighed, then straightened. “I thought I saw something.” [I’ve got you on the edge of your seat now, right?] Then they continues on their journey.

It started to get dark, [aren’t you parents…worried about you???] and they stopped to have a snack that Robyn brought. Joy made a small fire inside a circle of rocks. [She’s got some smarts, I’ll give her that] They all sat around the camp fire and told jokes. [Y’all really should be getting home. It’s dark and you are 12 or 13]

While they were laughing at a joke, Robyn heard another sound. This time it was more clear. It sounded like a neigh from a horse. [As of yet I don’t know of another animal that neighs] “Did you hear that?” Robyn said in a low voice. Joy remembered to speack [sorry WHAT IS THIS SPELLING] in a low voice too. “I heard it.” Joy said. “Me too.” Kathrine added. “Put out the fire.” said Robyn, as she walked towards the sound.

They walked for a few minutes before heairng another neigh. [From a horse, that is] Robyn gasps. “That sounds like Bessy, she was in the corral.” [Sorry but Bessy is a named strictly for cows] They followed Bessy’s neigh, into an open feild. [Apparently I got really confused with the order of “i” and “e” in some words. My apologies] They scaned the area to see the Mystery Horse. Suddenly, Joy grabbed Robyn’s arm. “Look! There he is!” Robyn looked to where Joy was pointing. Standing right there, was the Mystery Horse, staring right at them. [Ah, the master finally meets his disciples…er, fanatics]

They stood there for a moment, admiring the beautiful horse. [Sorry, that’s all the description you’ll get] “I can’t believe it.” Kathrine said. Robyn walked slowly toward him, [wouldn’t recommend doing that with a wild horse but hey *backs away* you’re the expert] with carrots in her hand. The Mystery Horse raised his head, and started to walk toward her. Kathrine and Joy glanced at eachother, and smiled. When Robyn reached him, he munched on the carrots.

After he finished them, he searched her for more. “Sorry,” Robyn said. “I didn’t bring anymore.” [How dare you?!] She reached out and stroked his nose. [Is this a wild horse or not?]

Robyn motioned for Kathrine and Joy to join her. They gladly walked over and stroked his nose too.

While they were stroking his neck and back, they noticed dark clouds in the sky. Then it started to rain. [Sorry I just… this paragraph…the expert wording and crafting of it is just too much]

Chapter 4

A Dream Come True

*****

It started to pour on Robyn, Joy, and Kathrine. [But just them. Not the rest of the area] “What do we do now?” Asked Kathrine. While Robyn was thinking, the Mystery Horse nudged her with his shoulder. Robyn was confused. Then he did it again. “Oh, I know!” She said at last. “I think he wants to take us home.” [If this isn’t like so many other cliche horse stories than I don’t even know…] Joy and Kathrine looked unsure. Ride a wild horse? [Just crossed your mind he was wild now, huh?] Isn’t that dangerous? [So is approaching a wild horse] Robyn jumped onto his back [either that’s a short horse or this girl really know how to swing up without any help (it’s hard, trust me)] and helped Joy up, who helped Kathrine up. [Let’s all just break his back, shall we?]

After getting settled, the Mystery Horse galloped on. Robyn tried to stear him with his mane, but he wanted to go a different way. [He’s WILD, remember???] Robyn gave up and just let him go his own way.

After a few minutes of riding, Robyn’s house was in sight. “Look!” Joy pointed. “That’s your house, Robyn.” Robyn looked and smiled. The Mystery Horse had brought them home. This was a dream come true. [Pretty sure he just doesn’t want you crazies around him]

When they arrived in Robyn’s yard, they slipped off the Mystery Horse’s back, and lead him into their stable. [IS THIS A WILD HORSE OR NOT]

After putting him in a comfortable stall, they wondered what to do. “What do we do with the Mystery Horse?” Asked Kathrine. “We can’t keep him here; he’s wild.” Joy added. [I’m beginning to think Joy might have some sense] Robyn couldn’t keep him, even though she wanted to. He was used to roaming free, not cooped up in a stable. “Let’s let him go free.” Robyn finally said. [noble of you] Joy and Kathrine smiled and helped her lead him out.

After letting him go, the rain stopped. [Is there a hidden meaning behind this?] They watched as he ran into the forest. Then he stopped, looked back and neighed. [a horse’s neigh] This was truly a dream come true for them all.

The End.

Well, I hope that wasn’t too torturous for you. 😉 Let’s hope fanatics Robyn, Joy and Kathrine returned to their normal lives and normal mental state, having satisfied their dreams by seeing the Mystery Horse. Which, by the way, you absolutely NO description of. Just know that he was big and black. Probably with a white stripe on his face.

I hope this part 3 of the series brought you more laughs than cringes. Excuse me while I go read my current writing to restore faith in my abilities. See you next time!

What are some of your current obsessions? (please don’t say the Mystery Horse)

XD “You ain’t a chameleon”. XD XD Im dying. Sounds like something I’d write. Actually I was obsessed with my little pony and wrote a story based off of that which included a boat that apparently looked like a giant version of a knife in our play room’s kitchen, *dies* and now my friends want to read it…, I might have to do a post like this for them. XD

Lolol! Thanks for sharing, Jenna. I’ve loved this series! My old writing was much worse than yours, but our logic was about the same. 😉 I don’t see my old writing as a bad thing, though. I look at it as evidence of how much I’ve grown. Also, something I can read to my relatives to put them in stitches. 😂 So, I’m sure you’ve improved a lot!
