My working space is very important to me. How it’s configured easily effects how productive I am.

I believe that it’s very important to put a lot of thought into the workspace where you create. To figure out where your creativity thrives the most.

I want to give you a little look into where I do most of my writing: my desk. Each item that’s in this workspace contributes somehow to my creativity and productivity. Maybe you’ll get a few ideas for your own work area.

 

|Plants|

For some reason when typing that subheading I pictured Eve from the Wall-E movie yelling at Wall-E for the plant like, “Plaaaant! Plaaaaaant!”

No one? Okay…

How it makes me productive: plants just make me happy. There’s something about having these things on my desk that makes it feel like home. I’m sure there’s some science behind this…somewhere…

 

|My diffuser|

Almost every morning, I diffuse an essential oil in my little diffuser. Lately, I’ve been liking a citrus blend.

Isn’t it cute?

How it makes me productive: I’ve heard that some essential oils can help with focus and lifting your mood. I diffuse more for the health benefits, and for some reason having the little whirring of the diffuser in the background helps me focus better (???).

 

|My water bottle|

This is soooo important to me! I talk a lot about how crucial water is for writer health. I try to drink this whole bottle (24 oz.) before I eat anything in the morning.

How it makes me productive: Drinking plenty of water helps clear my mind and make me focus. I just feel better when I’m hydrated.

 

|My mugs + an inspiring book|

I am sort of a professional mug collector. I have a grand total of 5.

…so maybe not quite professional yet.

I’m also currently reading Courageous Creative by Jenny Randle, a 31-day interactive devotional for creatives. Besides the artsy-looking cover, so far this book is really inspirational.

How it makes me productive: MUGS: Um…they make me happy? THE BOOK: this book helps you embrace your creative, innovative spirit and motivates you to try new things and use the creative gifts God has given you.

 

|Fandom stuff|

What’s a writer bedroom without fandom merch? I currently have a candle from the company In the Wick of Time with a Sherlock Holmes theme, 221B.

This is just the beginning of the collection…

How it makes me productive: fandom merch reminds me how much I love story, how much I’m passionate about it. It reminds me of my favorite books and how the authors impacted so many people with their storytelling. It’s motivating.

 

|Bulletin board|

How it makes me productive: I can post any bits of art I create, quotes, bits of special things for keepsake, etc., creating an overall inspiring board to look up at and smile. 🙂

 

|My laptop|

Of course, we can’t forget about this thing. I definitely do NOT handwrite my novels. I leave that part to ma trusty laptop.

How it makes me productive: Does this really need explanation? Sure it’s also a source of distractions (*beats back pinterest*), but typing allow my hands to keep up with my thoughts while I’m writing. Plus I can communicate with all my writer friends and what’s more productive-inducing than that?
