Looking Back {July wrap-up}

I barely got this post written in time for the first day of August…

But that’s okay: it was late because fun things were happening in my life, and that’s a good excuse to be a little late for something.

July was a good month. Things are slowing down and going back to normal. I’m able to return to my normal daily routine, which always makes me happy and feeling productive.

Let’s get right into the wrap-up…

Reading

Finished…

  • Romanov by Nadine Brandes. LOVE this! It had been too long since the last time reading Nadine’s writing style, which is my favorite. I’m not a big fan of magic, but the historical element of this was super interesting. You can read my review on Goodreads.
  • Real Artists Don’t Starve by Jeff Goins. Great book for any creative looking to make it in an artistic field, in whatever medium that is. The Starving Artist doesn’t have to be us. With some simple mindset changes and crucial steps, we can make a living doing what we love.

Currently reading…

  • The Story Raider by Lindsay A. Franklin. There was a launch party for this book while I was at RM, but I wasn’t able to go. 🙁 But I’m so glad I was able to buy the book and get it signed! So far it’s been just as good as the first. Lindsay’s fantasy world has been my favorite one so far, I think.
  • Go Teen Writers: Edit Your Novel by Jill Williamson and Stephanie Morrill. Reading this updated and revised version.

Writing

The Snowflake Method for outlining is continuing to be just…awesome. It makes outlining fly by (because I, uh, don’t like outlining all that much) and gives me a solid process to use for every book.

So yeah, been doing that with Embers. Currently just working on finalizing the Act 3 of the plot and outlining each scene before writing this thing (also getting ahead of myself and writing the first chapter anyway *shakes head in shame*). And I’ve started a new project too (am I insane?). Another sic-fi, of course. You can keep an eye on the My Book Progress widget in the sidebar or subscribe to my email list to receive updates, sneak peeks, collages, etc. for my projects.

I’m also working on a new and interesting short story: a sci-fi Pinocchio retelling. If this works out, then I’m planning on offering it as an incentive for my mailing list.  Don’t worry, if you’re already subscribed, you’ll still receive the short story too. 😉

Life Stuff

  • Saw Toy Story 4. Honestly, I was pretty nervous going to watch this. Toy Story is my CHILDHOOD! I don’t want my childhood messed up, no sir. But my worries were for nothing because the movie was GREAT! Just like the good ol’ times with the adventure, humor, and tearful ending (seriously. so sad). Forky was so funny!
  • Went to Realm Makers! You can read about that here or click on the link above too. Super duper awesome experience and I learned so much! I got to meet several blogger/writer friends, which is super epic. <3 RM got me so pumped about writing!
  • Life is going back to normal. Things have been so busy and crazy these past several months, I feel like things are finally slowing down and going back to normal. I thrive on some normalcy and routine in my life; this is refreshing.
  • Watched the new Beauty & the Beast. There were certain elements of the movie that I didn’t appreciate, but overall it was very enjoyable.
  • Vacation with the fam. Took a much-needed, relaxing, fun summer vacation.

And there you have it, people! July was an overall fun and exciting month, and I hope August will be the same. I’m looking forward to the school-year starting up, because I can’t wait to see what my new routine will be since I’ve graduated high school. I might even do a day-in-the-life-of-a-high-school-graduate type post (let me know in the comments if you’d like that). I hope you all have a blessed August!

Sci-fi Pinocchio? That sounds amazing. I remember reading Pinocchio when I was a kid, it was so weird but strangely enjoyable 😉

I absolutely love your story premises. I honestly haven’t read a ton in those genres, but I’m beginning to love it. 🙂 Love this post! You did so many great things in July. 🙂

Hey! I’m glad you liked Toy Story 4! I’m way more attached to Cars, so I wasn’t too worried about Toy Story 4…but at the same time I was and I actually really liked it!! And I’m sticking to popular opinion and saying do a day in the life post!! ☺️ I just graduated too, so it’d be neat to see what someone else is doing!

My family likes the Cars movies too. Which is your favorite? I’m glad you liked Toy Story 4 too!
Well, congrats! 😀 It seems the popular opinion is to do a day in the life post! 🙂

Honestly, Cars 3 is my favorite, even though I really love the first one too, and the second one is downright hilarious after living in Japan. 😆 I love how Lightning’s grown and takes care of Cruz. 😍

Cars 3 is pretty good. I think the first one will always have a special place in my heart. 🙂 <3 But yes, the second was pretty hilarious! Wow, you lived in Japan???
