12 Bible Verses for Writers

Lately I’ve found a lot of encouragement as a writer in the Bible.

There are so many good verses that we can use to spur us forward on our writing journey, remind us of who God is, and who we are in Him.

These are some of the verses I’ve written down and like to read regularly as a good reminder of what it means to be a storyteller for God.

Romans 8:28

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

We don’t have to worry about the future of our writing. We can rest in the fact that God has a plan that will be best for us.

Ephesians 2:10

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

God’s given you that passion for writing for a reason and He’s going to use that for His purposes.

1 Timothy 4:14

Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you.

“Do not neglect your gift.” Pursue excellence in it to prepare yourself for what God has planned.

Psalm 139:14

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    your works are wonderful,
    I know that full well.

God is the ultimate artist. All of what He’s made is beautiful, and that includes you.

Proverbs 22:29

Do you see someone skilled in their work?
    They will serve before kings;
they will not serve before officials of low rank.

Excellence in your craft will be rewarded.

Romans 12:2,6

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

[6] We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us…

Don’t be afraid to challenge the norms of this society. Don’t be ashamed of the unique gifts God has given you.

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Sometimes I get really worried about the future of my writing and publishing. Then I remember, with this verse, that God already has things figured out. And it will be better than my wildest dreams.

Matthew 5:16

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Let the light and message of your stories bring glory to God.

Titus 3:14

Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order to provide for urgent needs and not live unproductive lives.

Your writing can be used to fill a need. “See a need, fill a need.” 😉 (anyone know where that’s from?)

1 Peter 4:10

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

I love this one. Jesus served so much during His time on earth, and we can do the same even with our writing.

Colossians 3:23

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.

Our writing is a form of worship to God and we should always write as if for Him instead of wondering what others will think.

Proverbs 3:6

In all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.

God blesses submission and obedience to Him. When we do so, even with our writing, we can know that He will guide us.

I hope this post was encouraging to you and you found some verses to add to your inspiring arsenal. 😉 I may do a part two of this someday; I keep coming across more good verses for writers and creatives.

One of my favorites is Isaiah 46:10:
I make known the end from the beginning,
from ancient times, what is still to come.
I say, ‘My purpose will stand,
and I will do all that I please.’
It just reminds me that God is a storyteller, too. And He’s good at foreshadowing. 🙂
